Testimonials

There are no words to adequately describe just how amazing this program has been for our family. By the time we found our way to Barton and to Cheryl’s services we were quite literally at the end of our rope. We had spent a total of 4 years and thousands of dollars on reading intervention programs that didn’t work. Well meaning but uninformed people tried offering advice. We heard everything from she isn’t trying and is lazy to we are encouraging her to not read by putting in her head that she has a problem. It tore at my husband and I daily and our daughter was distraught. It was as if each failed attempt and each unsuccessful month that passed took a piece of her with it. I vowed to not give up my search; to NOT give up on my daughter.

Chance led me to Cheryl and the Barton program. Upon meeting her, I immediately felt at ease. She listened intently to our story and I truly felt that we were being heard. After the testing was completed that confirmed our daughter not only met the criteria for Dyslexia but was profoundly dyslexic, Cheryl was very patient and thoroughly explained in detail both the results and the implications of Dyslexia itself. I no longer felt alone in our quest and struggle.

By the time we started our weekly sessions, my daughter was in fourth grade but reading on a kindergarten reading level. That was a little over a year ago. Today, while she is only about halfway through the entire program, she has come so far. In fact, she is almost up to grade level. I am utterly impressed by the structure and results of the Barton program. For the first time, it all “clicks” and most important for success, my daughter has retained what she has learned. Her confidence has improved and because Cheryl has gone beyond tutoring and has helped educate us about Dyslexia, we have had the opportunity to explore the wonderful qualities and attributes that dyslexics possess. In fact, when I overheard my daughter explaining to a new friend that she was dyslexic the “learn to read a little differently” part was the fourth or fifth thing she listed, not the first.

The Barton system really works and Cheryl Anthony is a patient and committed tutor. It is evident from the start that she truly is an advocate for Dyslexia and has a heart for the struggling reader. I whole-heartedly recommend her to ANYONE. She has forever changed my daughter’s life.
